Hot chocolate bombs have become popular in recent years - a hollow circular chocolate mold that usually holds a little surprise inside like marshmallows, sprinkles or candies. You place the bomb in a mug and pour hot milk over the top. You’re treated to a little show as you watch the chocolate melt little by little and reveal what’s inside. But, it’s not all just show - the high quality chocolate produced at Gayety’s creates one amazing mug of hot chocolate.

Gayety’s is an absolute gem with a long, interesting history. It originated in Chicago in 1920 when Greek immigrant James Papageorge opened a candy shop next to the Gayety Theatre at 9207 S. Commercial Avenue. Hand-dipped chocolates and homemade ice cream were served at that location until Gayety’s relocated in a strip of stores on Torrence Avenue in Lansing in the late 1980s. In 2003 it moved to its current spot on Ridge Road in Lansing where things are still done they were a century ago in Chicago. Chocolates are still dipped by hand. Home made whipped cream still tops the sundaes. For those who have been longtime customers, it’s a taste of nostalgia and for those new to the shop it’s an introduction to premium, high quality candy completely different than what you’ll find in a mass-produced grocery store candy bar.
